Created with our new Batch 89 Reserve Bourbon Spirit Flavouring Kit, this Bourbon Sour will keep you coming back for more. Tart and refreshing with the sour edge cut with the sweetness of a brown sugar and vanilla syrup.
Ingredients
- 60ml Batch 89 Reserve Bourbon Flavouring (pre-mixed)
- 15ml fresh lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar & vanilla syrup (see recipe below)
- 2 cups soft brown sugar (lightly packed)
- 1 cup water
- 1 vanilla bean, split lengthways
- 15ml Egg white
- Bitters (to garnish)
- Ice
Directions (for the syrup)
- Add the sugar and water to a medium saucepan and mix over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly.
- Reduce the heat and simmer until the sugar is completely dissolved – approximately 2 minutes.
- Add the split vanilla bean and cook for a further minute.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the mixture to cool completely. Pour the syrup (including the bean) into a glass bottle or jar and store in the fridge.
Directions (for the cocktail)
- Add the bourbon, lemon juice, syrup, and egg white to the shaker. Shake vigorously to incorporate the ingredients and create foam- this should take a minute or so.
- Add ice to the shaker and shake well for another 30 seconds.
- Strain into a glass and drop a dash of bitters into the foam to garnish.
